The rock formations, the hill, the green oasis and the Nile; These are the four main design drivers of the design. The Plot is a carved piece of the hill overlooking the Nile river and the untouched green oasis on the other side of the shore hence the layout and the architectural forms follow and coexist with the topographic edges of the site and its distinct rocks This creates an ongoing dialogue between nature and the project’s intervention. The program placement follows a hierarchy where the user circulate from public to private. Vertical and Horizontal circulation creates a journey similar to the original topographic experience of the land, enhanced with local landscaping elements that trigger the human senses. Building units are oriented towards the Nile river and in the direction of the prevailing wind to enhance the feeling of the Nile breeze through the interiors. The architectural language is inspired from the original vernacular Nubian architecture which came along with the proposed environmental solutions. The goal of this project is to create a holistic, regional and sustainable space, therefore all the building materials used in the project are locally sourced, The project will introduce a new unique building technique with Compressed Earth Bricks that can be further a model for others to use in the area.
